Strength Training


Recent research has shown that strength training has many health benefits. It has been shown that adults who choose not to perform strength training lose up to 4 pounds of muscle mass every ten years. While cardiovascular exercises increase stamina, they do not stop the muscles from losing their mass. Only strength training will allow the muscles to maintain their mass over time.

Muscles are very active, and when the metabolism slows down, muscle loss occurs. For this reason it is important to train for strength so that the metabolism doesn't slow down. The first step of strength training is to work to rebuild muscle which has been lost due to a lack of exercise. A good program should be able to add three pounds of muscle in one week. It is expected that the metabolism is increased by 6% after training has been performed for a week.

It is also important that saturated fat is removed from the body. Arteries with large amounts of cholesterol can become clogged, and this is a leading cause of heart attacks and strokes. The minerals in your bones are increased, and the bones can become more dense and strong. Unfortunately, more emphasis is often placed on cardiovascular training than strength training.

This creates a society where many people only have a certain aspect of their physical fitness. It is important to have both cardiovascular fitness and strength. Having one without the other is worthless, and will only moderately contribute to your health over the long term. Strength training is a great way to relieve stress, and it can also keep your blood pressure regulated. If you are looking to gain a decent amount of muscle mass, you will want to eat beef of certain cuts and avoid being a vegan.

While fruits and vegetables are important in a good diet, eating no meet restricts the amounts of proteins you have. Protein plays an important role in muscle mass and density. While eating meat rich in fat or oils is not recommended, there needs to be a balance between meat and vegetables. Eating one exclusively without the other can lead to a loss in muscle density over time.

Our society places a big importance on cardiovascular health, and though this is important, an emphasis has to be placed on strength training as well.
