The first thing to do is think about why you are overweight. There are only four possible reasons for this - and these are the only factors I could find upon a thorough investigation.
Genetics
The one factor that is completely outside your control. There is nothing you can do to change this, but this book will give you strategies to counter its effects. Whatever your genetics, you can still decide to live a healthy life.
Nutrition
You are consuming too many calories from food and drink relative to the amount of energy you are using. You have to learn to befriend food so that it can still be enjoyable, but not do your health damage at the same time.
Exercise
You do not undertake enough exercise relative to the amount of food and drink you are consuming. Perhaps not as essential as nutrition to weight loss, but certainly essential for long-term weight management. Exercise is vital for the maintenance of a healthy body and it can have enormous benefits for your mental attitude and sense of well-being.
Mind-set
You may have an emotional attachment to food, which you will need to break. Food can become an abusive substance - rather like being an alcoholic. Mind-set issues also include stress, boredom and habit. To lose weight you must develop the will to change, together with the kind of attitude that will keep you focused when things get tough.
