Cholesterol Diet

Despite the negative things said about fat in the media, it plays an important role in providing energy to the body. Despite this, the body has other sources of energy, and too much fat in the body can be harmful. Many people have begun using a cholesterol diet to lose weight and maintain their health.

Your heart pumps blood through vessels in the body called arteries. The blood carries oxygen and other crucial nutrients through the body. The heart has its own vessels which are named coronary arteries. When the cholesterol in the body becomes too high, some of this cholesterol is left in the arteries. Over time this cholesterol left in the arteries will harden and form a substance known as cholesterol plaque. The flow of blood through the arteries containing this cholesterol plaque will begin to be restricted.

If the flow of blood to the brain is reduced, a person will suffer from a stroke. If the coronary artery of the heart is blocked, a person will suffer from a heart attack. Cholesterol in the body is manufactured in the liver, and comes from saturated fats. Because of this, keeping the amount of saturated fat taken into the body regulated will lead to an decrease in the amount of cholesterol produced by the liver. This will stop the blood vessels from becoming packed with cholesterol plaque.

The most important factor in a cholesterol diet is reducing the amount of alcohol and sugar you take into your body. They don't give you many nutrients, but they are rich in calories. They will increase the amount of cholesterol in the body, and this will lead to an increase in weight. Smoking cigarettes and living a sedentary lifestyle is something you want to reduce or avoid while on the cholesterol diet. By exercising the amount of cholesterol in the body can be lowered, and it can stop stress which normally leads to high blood pressure.

Proponents of this diet should also try to eat fish at least three times a week. Certain types of fish such as salmon and herring contain a special oil called Omega 3 fatty acid. This oil will help lower the amount of cholesterol found in the blood. Fish oil supplements are discouraged because they are high in calories. It is also important to avoid sodium. Table salt is about 50% sodium, and this ingredient is heavily found in processed foods.
